Facts about Earth- Unknown from the History

1. Earth has only one natural satellite which is called the ‘Moon’. Luna (Moon) orbits at a distance of 384,000 km with a radius of 1738 km and a mass of 7.32 e22 kg. There are thousands of small artificial satellites which have been placed in orbit around the Earth. Because of its size and composition it is also called a terrestrial planet along with Mercury, Venus, earth and Venus.

2. The proximity prevents us from seeing Earth as a whole. If we wish to view the entire planet then we must travel to space and being at the vantage point of space we can view the planet globally as we do view others.

3. Earth is the only planet to harbor life as it has an atmosphere that sustains life. Its atmosphere is 76% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen with traces of Argon, Carbon dioxide and water. The atmosphere affects Earth’s long term climate and short term local weather as well as shield us from nearly all harmful radiations coming from the Sun. It also protects from meteors as well as they mostly burn up before they strike the surface of the Earth.

4. Earth has four distinct seasons. This is an outcome of Earth’s axis of rotation being tilted more than 23 degrees. Seasons changes as the tilt of the Earth’s axis changes during its revolution around the Sun.

Facts about Earth- Some More from the History

1.If we get to stand at the Equator, We would be spinning around earth's center at 1000 miles per hour. However, at the poles, we would be standing still and turning in a circle continuously.

2.  The rocks we often stand on get re-cycled. Volcanoes spit them out as Magma, then dry , harden and after a very long time either get sucked down again by plate tectonics’ or get pushed towards Earth's core by a fresh layer of rocks above.

3. The hottest temperature ever recorded ever on Earth's surface was 136 degrees Centigrade in El Aziza, Libya recorded in 1922.

4. The Coldest spot is Antarctica’s Vostok station that recorded a chill of minus 128.6 degree Fahrenheit (Minus 89.2 degree Centigrade).

Facts about Earth- Extreme in the History

1. Earth is almost Five billion years old although life has only existed on the planet for around 150 to 200 million years (5-10) % of Earth’s lifetime.

2. Earth is the only planet in the solar system known to be geologically active, with Earthquakes and Volcanoes forming the landscape.

3. Out of all the planets in the Solar system, Earth is the Densest planet with the average density of 5.52 grams per cubic centimeter.

4. Earth is the only Planet in our solar system with Plate Tectonics. Without the presence of these plates the carbon content would not be consumed or recycled and earth would burn as a whole due to over-heating.

Facts about Earth- Some More From the History

1. Earth is the Fifth Largest Planet. The diameter of the Earth at the equator is about 7926 Miles. Earth is not a perfect sphere but is slightly flattened at the poles, the diameter of the Earth measured around North Pole and the South Pole is about 7899 Miles.

2. Earth has four distinct seasons. This is an outcome of Earth’s axis of rotation being tilted more than 23 Degrees. Seasons changes as the tilt of the Earth’s axis changes during its revolution around the Sun.

4. Earthquakes can be catastrophically destructive and deadly. It is estimated that Earth releases about 1 million shifts in a year and almost most of them are not even registered.

Facts about Earth- Space Above in the History

1. Earth was the centre of the Universe in the early philosophy. However it was figured out in the 3rd century to measure the distance to the Sun and the Moon and was concluded that the Earth orbited the sun later to correct by Nicolaus Copernicus in 1543.

2. Earth has only one Natural Satellite which is called the ‘Moon’. Luna (Moon) orbits at a distance of 384,000 km with a radius of 1738 km and a mass of 7.32 e22 kg. 3. Earth is the third planet from the Sun. Its average distance from the Sun is around 149,597,890 km or one astronomical unit (AU). Located between Venus and Mars, some people even call it ‘Third rock from the Sun’.

4. Experts around the world claim that roughly around 1000 tons of Space Debris rains down in a year and it is increasing with every year.

1. Earthquakes can be catastrophically destructive and deadly. It is estimated that Earth releases about One Million earthquake shifts in a year and almost most of them are not even registered.

2. Experts around the world claim that roughly around One Thousand Tons of Space Debris rains down on to the Earth in a year and it is increasing with every year.

3. Earth’s Deserts are not composed entirely of sand. Around Eighty Five Percentages (85%) of them is a combination of Rock and Gravel.

4. Earth has a powerful Magnetic Field which protects it from the effect of Solar Winds. This happens because of the Nickel-Iron Core of the planet.
