1. Earth was the centre of
the Universe in the early philosophy. However it was figured out in the 3rd
century to measure the distance to the Sun and the Moon and was concluded that
the Earth orbited the sun later to correct by Nicolaus Copernicus in 1543.
2. Earth has only one Natural Satellite which is called the ‘Moon’. Luna (Moon) orbits at a distance of 384,000 km with a radius of 1738 km and a mass of 7.32 e22 kg. There are thousands of small artificial satellites which have been placed in orbit around the Earth. Because of its size and composition, it is also called a Terrestrial Planet along with Mercury, Venus, earth and Venus.
3. Earth is the third planet from the Sun. Its average distance from the Sun is around 149,597,890 km or one astronomical unit (AU). Located between Venus and Mars, some people even call it ‘Third rock from the Sun’.
4. Experts around the world claim that roughly around 1000 tons of Space Debris rains down in a year and it is increasing with every year.
